“The Freewheelers Cello Blues band is a unique tight fitting mix of blues, rock, old tunes, and 60's and 70's music delivered with a lot of flair and style with the addition of the cello.”

In March, of 2007, Ilene McHolland (cello, electric cello, vocals) and Bas Vossen(bass) started the Freewheelers after Bas suggested that the cello would be a great instrument in a blues/rock setting.  They introduced the concept at a festival in Hoogkarspel, the Netherlands, to a well received audience of about 150 people.  They continued with the idea and started playing local jam sessions to develop this new sound Bas had envisioned.

In May 2008.they decided to take the concept on the road, and ended  up in Alicante, Spain, where they were able to develop this concept of having a cello in a blues/rock band.  There,  they played with  Jaime Norambuena,(JaimeNorambuenaRock Band),Oscar Soler(Supersonics),  Jose Manue Rives(Funksynation) on guitar, and Nelson DeLeon playing drums.

Ilene has played in many orchestras, including  the Brian Farnon Orchestra, where she played in Frank Sinatra’s, Sammy Davis’,  and many other entertainers’ shows.  She lived and worked in Nashville, Tennessee, where she was a session musician, a director of The Music School on Music Row, and classical cellist in several orchestras.   Bas has worked as promotion manager for the psychedelic rock band “Light.”  He also has organized jam sessions in Amsterdam, Holland, and has played in Black Sabboth cover bands, and other hard rock bands.   Ilene’s sultry vocals, and electric cello blues ,and Bas’ hard driving bass lines makes the

FREEWHEELERS CELLO BLUES band the most unique blues band in the world.
